■The Snowy Half
Characters: T - Tomoko M - Matthew A GV and a learner at the start of their lesson...
M: Good evening Tomoko. How was your weekend? T: It was cool. M: What do you mean? T: I went to a ski resort in Niigata with my friends. M: Oh okay. Hahaha. How was the weather condition there? T: It was really snowy! It has actually been quite heavy these past few days. M: That's strange. It hasn't snowed as often in Saitama so far. T: Well, the prefectures facing the Sea of Japan are the snowy ones. M: Oh? T: You see, a mountain range slices through the middle of Japan so it kind of keeps the cold front from Russia and China from reaching the east side. M: So the cold humid weather is isolated to the east. T: Correct. M: No worries, my friend and I will be flying to Kyoto for the weekend anyway so it will likely be warmer there. T: I wouldn't be packing light outfits just yet. M: Why not? It's in the south, right? T: Kind of south but kind of west too. Do note that it's still facing the Sea of Japan. M: Yes but...(then releases a big sigh). I guess we'll have to redo everything from packing to planning. T: You can still make the most of it by staying at a ryokan with an outdoor onsen. M: Oh yes! It'll be amazing to take a dip in a hot spring while having snow softly landing on my head. T: Hhhhh...(trying to hold in her laughter) M: Did I say something funny? T: No..(snickering)..but when you said it, I pictured you sitting in the tub with the Nagano snow monkeys..hahaha. M: Hahaha.
