でも単語を単語帳を作って覚えるというのはめちゃくちゃ大変な割に効果は限られています。
では、ボキャブラリーを増やすには、どうしたらいいのでしょうか？
それは簡単です。
毎日に英語を使い、慣れるのが一番です。

C: So… How was your trip to the White Rose City?
M: Ahhh Hahaha I heard that. My friend told me that York,
Pennsylvania is called the White Rose City after the emblem
of the House of York.
C: What were some of the highlights of your stay?
M: Well, when you go there, you'll really understand
why it’s dubbed as an architectural museum.
C: Why is that?
M: Because when you go downtown, you’ll see
a good many of well-preserved historic structures.
You can see the Golden Plough Tavern, General Horatio
Gates House, York Meeting House, the Hebrew Temple,
the Laurel-Rex Fire Company House, and many more.
C: Is that so?
M: Absolutely. There are so many interesting things to see there.
Come to think of it, I read something engraved on a fireplace of
an old Victorian style home I visited there. I believe it said,
“DUM VIVIMUS VIVAMUS”. Do you have any idea what that means?
C: I see. That’s actually Latin for “While we live, let us live”.
M: Hmm… While we live… let us live… What does it exactly mean?
C: Well, it may seem a little confusing because it
uses a figure of speech we call as an antanaclasis.
That means, within that one sentence, the word “live”
was used in two different ways. First, it was used
in the same meaning as “alive”, and then it was used
in the same meaning as “make the most out of your life”.
M: I see. So antanaclasis is when the same word is
used more than once in a sentence, but with different meanings.
C: Well, it could either be a word or a phrase.
How about the Latin phrase? What can you say about it?
M: I like it. It says we should seize the day and
live our life to the fullest. What a wonderful phrase.

C：なるほど。それはラテン語で「生きている間は、生きさせて」
という意味だよ。
M：うーん・・・生きている間は・・・生きさせてって・・・
具体的にはどういう意味なの？
C: ちょっとわかりにくいかもしれないんだけど、
この文章ではスピーチの同語異義復言と呼ばれる様式を
使ってるの。
つまり、その一文の中で、"live "という言葉が2つの
異なる方法で使われていたっていうこと。
一つは「生きている」という意味で使われ、
もう一つは「人生を最大限に生かす」という意味で使われて
いるんだ。
M：なるほど。つまり、同語異義復言とは、同じ単語が文中で
複数回使われていても、意味が違う場合のことなのね。
C: んー、単語でもフレーズでもどちらでもいいんだ。
ラテン語のフレーズはどう？ 何か言う事ある？
M: 私は好きだな。一日一日を大切にして、
自分の人生を精一杯生きよう、という意味ね。
なんて素晴らしいフレーズなんでしょう。
