でも単語を単語帳を作って覚えるというのはめちゃくちゃ大変な割に効果は限られています。
では、ボキャブラリーを増やすには、どうしたらいいのでしょうか？
それは簡単です。
毎日に英語を使い、慣れるのが一番です。

■What’s with Harry?

(Yuna sees Cirilla reading a book)
Y:Wow, I didn’t know you were a fan of… (reads the cover of
the book) J.K. Rowling!
C:Yes, I’m definitely a fan, through and through!
Y:Amazing. Which book of hers would you say is your favorite?
C:Oh, dear. That’s such a tough question. I think I’ll need to
sleep on it!
Y:Yikes. I didn’t realize it was tough to be a bookworm.
C:That, my friend, is true. I still have about a hundred books
waiting to be read in my room.
Y:For real? Is your room a library?
(Cirilla chuckles softly)
C:I hate to disappoint, but it isn’t that grand. Sometimes,
I sell the books I’ve already read on Amazon or some online
shops. I just keep the ones I really love.
Y:But, I thought those books are precious to you, aren’t they?
C:That is also true; every single one of them has touched
my life in a way. But I can’t deny, they really take up too much
space. So, I have no choice in the matter. It’s either that or
I’ll find myself lying on books instead of a bed.
Y:That still sounds like a good idea, don’t you think? A bed
made out of books is unique!
C:Well, for one I don’t want to spoil the covers of my precious
books with my sweat, and it’s definitely not as pleasant
as a real bed.
Y:Got it. So, now you’re reading… Harry Potter and the Cursed Child?
C:Yes, and there are so many plot twists! He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named
makes my hair stand on their ends!
Y:I’m sorry? He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named? Who’s that?
C:Sorry, I just assumed you also read the book. Well, he’s the greatest
villain of the series! The epitome of evil and black sorcery!
Y:Oh, okay..
C:And, Harry, isn’t he grand?
Y:What’s with Harry?
C:Huh? You’re really, totally clueless?
Y:Yep, totally.
C:He grew up from being this frightened little boy to a real wizard
worthy of all the praise the magical world can ever give!
Y:Right. I appreciate such a stupendous amount of enthusiasm,
but I’m afraid my brain has only a limited capacity.
C:Oh, I’ll spare you. But, let me tell you one last thing: if you haven’t
read the book yet, you’re missing half of your life!

C:それはそうね。私はまだ100冊くらい本が私に読まれるのを
部屋で待ってるの。
Y:マジで？あなたの部屋は図書館なの？
(シリラはやわらかく笑う)
C:がっかりさせるのは嫌だけど、そんなに壮大なものじゃないかな。
たまにね。 すでに読んだ本はアマゾンかいくつかのオンラインショップ
で売っているの。本当に好きなものだけを取っているわ。
Y:でも、その本はぜんぶ大事なんじゃないの？
C:それもそうなんだけど。
ある意味ではそれぞれ1冊ずつが私の人生に影響を与えてくれたの。
でも、多くの場所を占領されているってのも否めないのよね。
だから、私には選択肢がないのよ。もし手放さなければ、気がつけば
ベッドの代わりに本の上に寝ることにわ。
Y:それでも良さそうだけど？本でできているベッドってユニークだよ。
C:まあ、一つには、私の大切な本の表紙を汗で台無しにしたくないからね。
あと、そのベッドに寝ても、間違いなく快適じゃないよね。
