■A Port in a Storm
Characters: C - Chan; S - Souta
A GV and a learner in class talking about storms and typhoons...
C: Since it’s the rainy season in both our countries, there
have been a lot of typhoons and storms recently.
S: That’s true. A lot of people suffer during these times.
C: At times like these, it is important for people to have a
port in a storm. In both the literal and figurative sense
of it.
S: I couldn’t agree more. We all need someone or something
that will give us comfort in trying times like these.
C: I know some storms last for a few hours, and some, a couple
of days, but can you imagine a massive storm that lasts for
years?
S: That’s scary! Is there such a thing?
C: Have you ever heard of the Great Red Spot?
S: Isn’t that the one in Jupiter?
C: Exactly! It's a storm that’s bigger than the planet Earth.
Since the year 1830, scientists have been observing it. It
has actually been shrinking since the first time it was
discovered. Before, it was more than three times the size of planet
Earth.
S: I’ve heard some news that said it might die in a couple of
decades. That just means that no matter how strong the winds
are, we just need to endure and weather the storm because it
will eventually end.
