■C’est La Vie

Characters:     C - Chan;       A - Aika

A GV talking to a returning learner

C: Long time, no see. You’ve been absent from our classes

these past few weeks. How have you been?

A: Well, it’s actually a long story.

C: Oh, what happened?

A: A strong typhoon hit our area and we were really devastated.

I couldn’t connect to the internet because the cell towers

were damaged. Even if I could, electric towers were also

destroyed. And it’s really difficult for the power company to

go to the affected areas because too many uprooted trees are

blocking the roads. It’s one thing after another these past few

 weeks.

C: I’m sorry to hear that. Are things better now?

A: Could be better. My roof still needs to be repaired.

C: That’s really unfortunate.

A: It is. That’s why I’m staying with my parents for now.

At least until everything is okay.

C: I hope things get better soon. That’s really quite a predicament

    you’re in right now.

A: What can I say, except, c’est la vie. Such is life.

C: C’est la vie, indeed.
