■Tidying Up
Characters: A - Alex D - Dana
Alex and Dana are chatting during a coffee break at the DCEC office.
A: Dana, your desk looks so tidy today! Did you clean it all morning?
D: I did.
I finally tackled the pile of paper and dusted the shelves.
(grinning)
A: Wow, that must have taken forever.
D: Nearly two hours. I kept finding things I forgot I had.
A: Like what?
D: Pens, old notebooks, even a half-eaten snack from last week.
A: Yikes. So do you feel accomplished now?
D: A little. But I know it’ll be messy again by tomorrow.
It’s an ephemeral victory.
A: Ahh, cleaning really is a never-ending task.
But still, a win is a win! (smiling)
D: Yes, no matter how short. This victory calls for a break! (laughing)

A：ダナ、今日は机すごくきれいだね！朝ずっと掃除してたの？
D：うん。
やっと紙の山を片付けて、棚のほこりも払ったの。（にっこり）
A：わあ、それかなり時間かかったでしょ。
D：ほぼ2時間かな。忘れてたものが次々出てきてさ。
A：例えば？
D：ペンとか、古いノートとか、それに先週の食べかけのおやつまで。
A：うわ、それはやばいね。で、今は達成感ある？
D：ちょっとね。でも明日にはまた散らかってると思う。
一時的な勝利だよ。
A：ああ、掃除ってほんと終わりがないよね。
でもそれでも、勝ちは勝ち！（笑顔）
D：うん、どんなに短くてもね。この勝利には休憩が必要だね！（笑）
