■Happiness is a Piece of Cake

Characters: C - Chan; E - Etsuko

A GV and a learner in class talking about happiness

E: I’ve been down in the dumps recently.

C: I’m sorry to hear that. Did anything happen?

E: Well… I feel like everything I do doesn’t really matter.

I wake up, go to work, go home, and go to bed. The next day,

it’s the same boring cycle again. Nothing ever happens

in my life.

C: I see. I think most people feel that way every now and then.

That’s why it’s important to try and change things up.

Be random at times. Don’t just stick to the same mundane

tasks over and over again. What I’m trying to say is,

break the habit.

E: How do I do that?

C: There are many ways. Personally, I have a dice to

do that for me.

  I just roll the dice.

E: Sounds interesting. How exactly do you do it?

C: For example, if I want to eat, I designate a specific

food item or maybe a restaurant on each of the phases of

the dice. Then I just roll it. I include things or places

I haven’t tried before.

I let the dice make the decision for me.

Even if I’m unsure or unfamiliar, the risk is not too high

so I don’t mind whatever comes out.

E: I’d like to try that, too. I just want something

that would make me feel happy. I mostly eat cake

to feel happy. Hahaha

C: That’s good. I believe it’s a good idea to find

happiness in the smallest and simplest of things.
