Hello! My name is Poppet.
I have been working for seven years with a Japanese life insurance firm in Manila when I received a scholarship to study at Waseda.
I decided that studying in one of the world’s most advanced and innovative countries would be a tremendous experience.
Needless to say, two years of living and studying in Tokyo was too short for me to know much about the country - its language, culture and traditions.
This interest was also probably fueled in part by the memorable home stays I had in Fukushima Prefecture through a Rotary Club international exchange program, which was a revealing cultural and educational experience for me.

My previous work in life insurance afforded me the chance to help our sales agents and managers retool their presentation, communication and salesmanship skills.
By teaching English in Dela Cruz, I learn a lot from my learners and every class is always a cross-cultural learning experience where both of us can share openly and exchange views on varied subjects.
I am convinced that learning a global language such as English not only helps my learners to expand their career and life options, but more importantly, it allows them to adopt new ways of thinking and connect with people across the world, with confidence and a better understanding of themselves.

Take that big leap for your future and hope to see you learning English with us soon!

Ph.D. Microbial Systematics The University of Tokyo, Japan
B.S. Biology major in Microbiology
M.S. Microbiology minor in Plant Pathology University of the Philippines, Los Banos
Professional Experience
Post Doctoral Fellow, The University of Tokyo
Assistant Professor, University of the Philippines, Los Banos
My fascination about Japan started when I read one of the issues of the Pacific Friend magazine.
I got a glimpse of what is Japan through the English articles and vividly colored photographs of the magazine because it focuses about the people, society and technological advances of Japan.
My dream in visiting this amazing country was realized when I was accepted as one of the Monbukagakusho scholars to pursue post-graduate studies in Microbial Systematics.

Traveling other parts in Japan was a great adventure to experience the multi-faceted beauty of this country.
I was able to travel to Hakone and saw the majestic beauty of Mt. Fuji capped in snow.
A trip in Nikko showcased the UNESCO heritage shrines and the magnificent landscape adorned with the perfect blend of colors from the leaves of trees during autumn season.

Before coming to Japan, I was a teacher in microbiology in the Philippines.
I strongly believe that my years of experience in teaching using the English language as the medium of instruction is a great tool in teaching effectively this language along with the proven-effective methods of Dela Cruz English Club.
For those who are willing to learn the English language, I encourage you to please join us and learn the language in a more relaxed atmosphere and with fun!
