Having spent the first 23 years of my life in England, I was ready for a change when I moved to Japan.
I love living here; the culture, the people, the food… everything about Japan is exciting.

In England, I worked for several years as a marketer and administrator at the University of Warwick, one of England’s top higher education institutions.
I also studied Languages, which has helped me in my job as an English Language Teacher here in Japan.
My business background is also an advantage when teaching business English here at Dela Cruz.

I have many hobbies outside of work, but one of my favorite activities is cooking and eating!
I enjoy making all sorts of food - from Jamaican to Japanese.
Living in Japan has been a great culinary experience.
I have tried raw fish, pickled plums and fermented soybeans, and I love it all.

I hope you enjoy studying English with Dela Cruz as much as I enjoy teaching!

For as long as I can remember, I have always been interested in travel, and as I child I collected postcards sent to my family and friends from foreign countries. I am from a gypsy family, so I guess a love of travel and different cultures is in my blood! As an adult, I have been fortunate to live and work in many of the countries I dreamt about visiting when I was young. During my life’s journey, my instincts have been my principal guide and have prompted me to change direction several times. After college, I intended to train as a Parapsychologist, but instead I built a successful career as a globe trotting IT Quality Assurance Analyst and Project Manager. As my 20’s turned into my 30’s I changed direction again and returned to study my lifelong passion, Music. As a post-graduate, opportunity opened up another door and I became a lecturer in the areas of Music Technology and Sound Engineering. I still compose music in my spare time, and continue to conduct research. Next year, I hope to complete my PhD in the area of Sound Design for Film.Of all the countries I have lived and worked in, Japan has touched me the deepest. With its beautiful landscapes and diverse culture, there is so much to inspire anyone who has an interest in art and history. The food is also great! I love to eat and cook, and the Japanese people are amongst the friendliest you will meet anywhere in the world. I am lucky to have an insight into Japanese life that some foreign visitors never experience. I am married to a Japanese lady from a Buddhist temple family, and we have returned to Japan from the UK to raise a family and live in a quiet rural village. My whole life has changed for the better, and I now spend my days attending to temple duties and riding my bike along the coast of Lake Biwako. Everyday at 5p.m I ring the temple bell, and remember how lucky I am to be in this wonderful country.I hope that as a teacher I can inspire people to learn English, and perhaps travel to countries where my native language is spoken. Wherever you are in the world, there is a good chance that English will be spoken as a second language. Speaking English has helped me in so many ways to realise my dreams of travel, and I sincerely hope that I can pass on some my experiences to you!
