Before coming here, my impression of Japan was a country famous for kimono, sushi and home of the oversized sumo wrestlers.
Time flies indeed, a little over a year after I first set foot in Japan, I must say that I have adjusted quite well.
I have experienced all four seasons in full blast and had a childhood dream come true when it snowed three times in the winter of 2007.
In January 2008, I was also fortunate enough to have gotten the chance to wear a kimono.
Topping my list is my first skiing encounter in Karuizawa.
It was indeed an unforgettable experience to cherish!
Who says living in a foreign country can be a pain?
I beg to differ.
I am fortunate to have found my second home here in DelaCruz English Club.
Prior to joining the company, my background was mainly in banking and finance having worked for major financial institutions such as AXA.
Although a bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts helps in teaching English to my students, I can say that their willingness to learn is what makes me want to pursue this career.
Without a doubt I still have a lot to learn about Japan, its rich culture, customs and its people.
There’s no more holding back from exploring this beautiful country.
So, Kyoto, Nikko and Hokkaido-here I come!
Instructors at Dela Cruz English Club are not only educators but are also business-minded people, scientists, researchers, students, designers and artists with one common passion: teaching.
We exert our best efforts to assist our learners in achieving their objectives in learning English and are committed to our students’welfare.

“Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.” - Miriam Beard
As this is my second long stay in Japan, I have experienced a number of situations that I would have never guessed would happen to me.
My one year stint as a research student in Tsukuba was to change my life as I knew it.
When I was young, I had been fortunate enough to travel to some countries in the company of my family.
So interest in traveling was already innate in me.
Then again, to live alone in a foreign land with a different language was totally inconceivable to me, at first.
How could I even survive?
As I am about to start my second year in Dela Cruz English Club, I proved I can do it.
Not only did I become a stronger person with the change, I also acquired something from staying in Japan that I would carry inside me.
The understanding that a person’s determination and passion could help transcend boundaries and limitations is one of the lessons I intend to keep and pass along.
As I continue my journey in Japan, new and various encounters await me.
I wonder what is next in line… skiing in Hokkaidou?
Or climbing Mt. Fuji?
Or giving Japanese onsen another try?
Who knows…one thing I am sure though is that my learners surely would be the first among those who would benefit from my stories.
