Having spent the first 23 years of my life in England, I was ready for a change when I moved to Japan.
I love living here; the culture, the people, the food… everything about Japan is exciting.

In England, I worked for several years as a marketer and administrator at the University of Warwick, one of England’s top higher education institutions.
I also studied Languages, which has helped me in my job as an English Language Teacher here in Japan.
My business background is also an advantage when teaching business English here at Dela Cruz.

I have many hobbies outside of work, but one of my favorite activities is cooking and eating!
I enjoy making all sorts of food - from Jamaican to Japanese.
Living in Japan has been a great culinary experience.
I have tried raw fish, pickled plums and fermented soybeans, and I love it all.

I hope you enjoy studying English with Dela Cruz as much as I enjoy teaching!

When I was young, I did not consider being a teacher at all.
However, in college, I got to appreciate my teachers better.
How could a subject, History, which used to be boring sounded fascinating then? Well, it could only be due to the enthusiasm of the teacher.
From then on, I paid closer attention to the way teachers taught.
After graduation, I got an opportunity to teach in the elementary level and I enjoyed being with young learners.
Since then on, every year I have looked forward to starting a new school year, ready with the tried-and-tested strategies and new approaches in teaching.

I used to teach English Reading, which includes outlining, summarizing and paraphrasing.
These topics could be tough enough to handle for adults and more so for young learners.
Also, kids nowadays are busy with other things - internet, games, videos. Hence, how to make Reading a subject that could be appreciated by my students is a question I have dealt with every year.
When an opportunity came my way, I applied to the Teacher Training Program of Tsukuba University in order to learn more about the teaching-learning process.

Being in Dela Cruz English Club is another way for me to grow as a teacher.
Teaching and learning from the students of Dela Cruz is an experience that I am certain I will enjoy.
